Ten provinces and three territories

Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories. The provinces are British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. The territories are Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Regional groupings

Canada is often discussed in regional groupings. Atlantic Canada includes New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. The Prairie provinces are Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Ontario and Quebec are often described together as Central Canada, while British Columbia is on the Pacific coast. The territories make up Canada's northern regions.

Geography and climate

Canada is the world's second-largest country by total area and has an enormous range of landscapes and climates. The country includes Atlantic and Pacific coastlines, the Arctic, the Rocky Mountains, the Prairies, the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence region, and extensive forests and freshwater.

Provinces and territories

Each province and territory has its own geography and communities. Ontario is Canada's most populous province and includes Toronto and Ottawa. Quebec is Canada's largest province by area and has a French-speaking majority. British Columbia is known for its Pacific coast and mountain landscapes. The Prairie provinces are associated with agriculture and energy resources, while the Atlantic provinces have strong maritime traditions. The territories have large northern landscapes and distinctive Indigenous cultures and communities.
